What is Albucid 10 Eye Drops

Albucid 10 Eye Drops are used to treat bacterial eye infections, such as Conjunctivitis, and contain FDA-approved Sulfacetamide Sodium (10% w/v) as the active ingredient. Sulfacetamide belongs to the Sulfonamide (Sulfa) Antibiotic class and works by stopping bacterial growth. Albucid is manufactured by Allergan India Pvt. Ltd under strict GMP standards.

Sulfacetamide inhibits bacterial folic acid synthesis. It competes with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and inhibits the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, preventing bacteria from multiplying. Albucid is mainly used for Bacterial Conjunctivitis, Corneal Ulcers, Trachoma, and to prevent infection after eye surgery.

For use, instill 1-2 drops of the 10% solution into the affected eye every 2 to 3 hours initially. As symptoms improve, reduce use to 4-6 times daily, usually for 7 to 10 days or as directed by a doctor. Wash your hands before use, shake the bottle well, and avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye.

In case of overdose, rinse the eye thoroughly with clean water and seek medical help if severe irritation occurs. If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as it is remembered, unless it is close to the next dose, and do not double the dose.

Common side effects include temporary stinging, burning, itching, redness, or blurred vision. Seek medical attention if allergic reactions such as rash or swelling occur, or if there is severe pain, vision changes, or worsening discharge.

Albucid should be avoided in people with sulfa allergies, viral or fungal eye infections, and in newborns due to the risk of Kernicterus. Use caution during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in patients with dry eye. Avoid using silver-containing eye products, and space other eye drops by 5 to 10 minutes.

Store Albucid Eye Drops at 15-30?C, away from heat, light, and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed and discard it within 4 weeks of opening or by the expiry date.
