Pixelub 10 ml
Product highlights
Description
Pixelub Multi Eye Drops is a sterile ophthalmic lubricant solution available in a 10 ml bottle. Each ml of the solution contains Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium IP 5 mg (0.5% w/v) as the active ingredient, along with a preservative and sterile aqueous vehicle. The product is strictly for external ophthalmic use only and must not be injected or ingested. It is a lubricant eye drop, commonly referred to as artificial tears, used to provide relief from dryness and irritation of the eyes. The product is packaged in a clean white box with the brand name “PIXELUB MULTI” displayed prominently in teal capital letters, with a spiral of teal dots as a graphic design element at the bottom.
Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is a derivative of cellulose, a naturally occurring polysaccharide. In its ophthalmic formulation, it acts as a lubricating agent and tear substitute. Its mechanism of action is based on its ability to bind to the surface of the eye and retain moisture, forming a stable protective film over the corneal and conjunctival surfaces. This film mimics the lubricating properties of natural tears, reduces friction between the eyelid and the eye surface, prevents excessive evaporation of the tear film, and protects the ocular surface from environmental stressors such as wind, dust, smoke, dry air, and prolonged screen exposure. The viscous nature of the solution allows it to remain on the ocular surface for a longer duration compared to plain saline solutions, providing sustained relief from dryness and discomfort.
The primary indications for Pixelub Multi Eye Drops are the treatment of dry eye syndrome, providing relief from burning, itching, irritation, and discomfort caused by inadequate tear production or excessive tear evaporation. It is also indicated for the temporary relief of burning and irritation due to environmental factors such as wind, sun exposure, heating, air conditioning, and prolonged computer or mobile phone use. Additionally, it is used to lubricate and re-wet soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses, easing the discomfort associated with lens wear. The product is suitable for both adults and children, though it should be used under medical supervision in pediatric patients.
The recommended dosage is 1 to 2 drops instilled into the affected eye(s) as often as needed throughout the day, or as directed by an ophthalmologist. The drops can be used multiple times daily depending on the severity of symptoms and individual comfort needs. There is no strict limitation on the number of applications per day, and the frequency can be adjusted based on the degree of dryness experienced. The product is safe for long-term use, making it suitable for chronic dry eye conditions. If a dose is missed, it should be used as soon as remembered without doubling the next application.
The product is generally very well tolerated and is considered safe for regular and prolonged use. The most common side effects include mild stinging or burning sensation in the eye immediately after application, temporary blurred vision, eye irritation, itching, and mild redness. These effects are usually mild and transient, resolving within a few minutes. Other reported effects include watery eyes, a foreign body sensation, and mild eye discomfort. If any side effect persists or worsens, the user should discontinue use and consult a doctor. Severe allergic reactions are rare but may include swelling of the eyelids, severe redness, or intense itching.
Important precautions include removing contact lenses before instilling the drops and waiting at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as the preservative may be absorbed by soft contact lenses. If using other eye medications simultaneously, a gap of at least 5 to 10 minutes should be maintained between different drops. The user should avoid driving or operating machinery until their vision is clear after application, as temporary blurred vision is common. The product should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to carboxymethylcellulose or related cellulose derivatives. The dropper tip should not be touched to the eye or any surface to maintain sterility. The product should not be used if the solution changes color or becomes cloudy.
The product should be stored in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight and kept out of reach of children. The bottle should be tightly closed after each use to prevent contamination. The product is available in India at a price range of approximately 30 to 80 rupees per 10 ml bottle and is widely available through major online pharmacy platforms, supermarkets, and offline pharmacies. It is generally available over the counter, though a prescription may be recommended in some cases.
